Slazenger fifths dominated the first 20 minutes of their away game with Bradford fourths but eventually fell away to lose 6-2. Bradford stunned Slazenger by surviving the initial storm then racing into a 4-0 lead, but Stuart Burnside pegged one back and Rob Stevens first-time strike put the visitors back in the hunt. However, as Slazenger pressed for the goals they fell prey to the counter attack, and twice Bradford struck to finish with a four-goal cushion unjust in Slazenger eyes because … [Read more...] about Report: 17-11-2001 – Mens 5th’s (2) vs (6) Bradford 4th’s

Report: 17-11-2001 – Mens 3rd’s (3) vs (3) Brigg 3rd’s
Ten-man Slazenger thirds worked their socks off to come back from behind three times and secure a 3-3 Yorkshire League 6 draw with hosts Brigg thirds. It was a high tempo encounter but under-staffed Slazenger never faltered in their commitment. Briggs slick passing paved the way for the opening goal but Slazenger hit back to level through Andy Birkett off a mazy run. Slazenger fourths suffered an unfortunate 3-0 reversal at Yorkshire League 8 rivals Boston Spa thirds. While the score line suggests otherwise, it was, in fact, a close encounter but Slazenger simply failed to capitalise on several good half-chances produced by the unstinting effort of Andy Auty and Richard Hutchins in midfield. Slazenger trailed by just one goal at half time and went into the second stanza brimming with confidence. But after fending off Boston Spa for much of the half, … [Read more...] about Report: 10-11-2001 – Mens 4th’s (0) vs (3) Boston Spa 3rd’s
Report: 10-11-2001 – Mens 3rd’s (1) vs (2) Normanby Park
Slazenger Thirds lost 2-1 to Normanby Park seconds in a game they dominated overall. However, a failure to convert their chances cost the home side dearly. Slazenger opened the scoring early on with a superb finish from John Sykes. Normanby Park equalised on the break-away in the second half. Slazenger responded well and looked to have restored their lead but an early whistle for a foul resulted in a second short corner - from which Normanby Park broke away to score. Despite constant … [Read more...] about Report: 10-11-2001 – Mens 3rd’s (1) vs (2) Normanby Park
