Slazenger went to Halifax looking to avenge their 0-6 home loss. They looked like a completely different side as they proceeded to take a 2-0 lead much to the delight of the Slaz spectators who had travelled to support. It was very much a game of two halves in the local derby between Slazenger and rivals Huddersfield Dragons and it could also be said that the scoreline flattered the winners slightly. Slazenger were hopeful of a more equal playing field against their local rivals and it was soon apparent that the teams were more evenly matched.
