Slazenger were hopeful of a more equal playing field against their local rivals and it was soon apparent that the teams were more evenly matched. The first half was pretty end to end but Wakefield did not threaten the Slaz defence too much who were very solid under attack. A welcome return by Ailish Hendry have Slaz the confidence they needed in midfield. Several times she threatened with some reverse stick tomahawks and was unlucky not to score when the Wakefield keeper was at full stretch to tip one over the crossbar. It looked like the score was going to remain 0-0 despite chances at both ends however a breakaway goal in the 30th minute wiped the smile off the home team as Wakefield took the lead.
The second half saw much more pressure from a determined Slaz team who had numerous short corners and were unlucky not to score. However a change to their routine got them the equaliser when a rebound ball was slammed home by Captain Helen Hough after 15 mins. However they only held on for 5 minutes as the ball was gifted to the opposition in a dangerous location and they took full advantage to extend their lead.
Slaz put further pressure on in the last 15 minutes hopeful they might convert again but were denied the draw they felt they deserved as the full time whistle blew.
Another home game on Saturday against Hull where Slaz will try and avenge their heavy away defeat!
