Report: 19-11-2000 – Boys U10’s

November 19, 2000 by Slazenger HC

A young Slazenger U10’s side has mixed fortunes in their first ever tournament. They were edged out 1-0 by Wakefield, drew 0-0 with Adel then lost through tiredness to Bradford.

Impressibe were Chris Wood, Jack Mumford, brothers Luke and Jordan Bell, and Elaine Dean.

Slazenger are holding a ‘taste it’ session on Sunday, November 26, for youngsters who want to try their hand at hockey.

Sessions will be held on the club’s astro-turf pitch from 9-10am for U12’s and from 10am to 12 noon for the over 12’s under the supervision of qualified coaches.

Slazenger Boys U16’s had a good set of results from their latest round of Yorkshire Youth League fixtures.

Goals from Whawell, Kaye and Stuttard produced a comfortable 3-0 win over York. Whawell scored again in the second game only for Scarborough to hit back at the death to pinch a dramatic draw.

Slazenger fought valiantly in the last match but eventually went down 2-0 in an impressive Richmond outfit.

Report: 01-10-2000 – Boys U16 Tournament

October 1, 2000 by Slazenger HC

Slaz U16’s fought hard but couldnt break through the York City A defence as they went 1-0 down.

Jonathan Clewlow had a good game in midfield but was blocked at every turn, while Eddie Richardson had a great game in defence.

The U16’s then had a bad day against Boston Spa as they were thumped 4-0.

Gavin Kaye and Neil Hutchins made vital tackles for Slaz, but weight of numbers and some clever short corner routines proved telling in the end as Spa held sway.

Slazenger had mixed fortunes against three of the top sides in the Yorkshire Boy’s U16’s League.

They earned a creditable 1-1 draw with Sheffield Bankers, James Swinden scoring for Slazenger and a third-match draw, also 1-1, with Harrogate, this time Gavin Kaye getting on the scoresheet. But the wheels came off in between when they were well-beaten by last season’s champions Gateshead.
