Billingham's robust defence frustrated Slazenger early on but the Horbury men recovered to win comfortably in the end. Nick Webb fired in a fierce shot to open the scoring, but Billingham replied with a breakaway goal and things looked worrying for a while. But Kevin Windler settled Slazenger nerves with a solo run from halfway and an excellent finish from a tight angle. And Keith Whittle sealed matters when he followed up well from a short corner. Slazenger U14's got off to a great start in Sunday's three-match outing, but results ran away with them following the opening fixture. Slazenger kicked off with an encouraging 2-0 victory over Almonbury. Gareth Ventom starred with the ball struck to his stick up front, while Richard Hutchins and Ian Hedges also impressed. Report: 19-01-2002 – Mens Vet’s (7) vs (4) Wakefield Vet’s

Jubilant Slazenger Veterans knocked neighbours Wakefield out of the Yorkshire Veterans Cup following an entertaining 7-4 encounter that left Ian Gordon and Keith Whittle with hat-tricks and the crowd gasping for more. A home victory looked far from being the case in the first half as Wakefield enjoyed the better play and missed several chances before opening the scoring.
