Slazenger ended the season on a dissapointing note, conceding two late goals in their defeat against Gateshead.The Wakefield based side started well, but conceded a goal against the run of play. A Mark Butel double helped Slazenger to a comfortable 4-1 win over Norton that condemned their visitors to relegation. Slazenger dominated from the start but couldn't convert their numerous chances as both Butel and Kev Windler went close in the opening stages. Report: 02-03-2002 – Mens 1st’s (1) vs (1) Tynemouth 1st’s

Mixed emotions were the order of the day for Slazenger after their tough trip to higher placed North East Division 2 outfit Tynemouth. Slazenger should have been happy with the away point, but on reflection they felt they could have won the game.
