LADIES SECTION A.G.M.

Welcome to all players, including all juniors playing in ladies teams. Please do your best to attend.

 

	BACK TO HOCKEY AT SLAZ    This Thursday, Slaz will be running the first of its “Back To Hockey” sessions. Back to hockey is a nationwide England Hockey backed campaign to help get more women into the sport. The sessions are an informal way to try out the sport, keep fit and have some fun in a team environment, without having to commit to membership, regular training or competition. The sessions are an hour long from 7:30pm – 8:30pm, and cost £3.50 per session. All equipment will be provided, although wear trainers (although shin pads are ideal!). With the weather against them, Slazengers took on Adel Old Boys in a titanic clash. An early lead from Slaz was eventually cancelled out by a well taken flick in the closing minutes of the game, ending 1-1.

On Tuesday 15th, Slazenger Hockey Club hosted its annual primary school hockey tournament, this year with an olympic theme. Working with the Woodkirk schools partnership, the tournament is a result of coaching and hockey development in local schools.

The primary school students were able to compete on on Slazengers’ hockey astroturf, a facility which most junior schools usually wouldnt have access to. In addition, Slaz junior head coach Steve Wood, and Boys U14’s coach Chris Hopkinson were on hand to umpire the event, giving it the professional touch.
6 Teams from the area entered; 2 from Hilltop Primary School, East Ardsley Primary School, Westerton Junior School, St Peters & Clifton Primary School and West Bretton.

The standard of hockey was exceptional and the tournament proved to be so close that the result came down to the final games!

In the end, it was Horbury’s own – St Peters & Clifton CE Primary School who lifted the gold, with West Bretton and Westerton coming second and third respectively.

It was an excellent day, with some fantastic sporting spirit shown by all teams.
