The game got off to a high tempo with both sides pushing high up the pitch and creating early chances and testing the keepers. Slazengers old heads took the lead and created more chances but were unable to score. Bankers opened the scoring to take the lead, but slaz kept in contention. Slazengers mens second team travelled to Sheffield Hallam 5's on Saturday looking to record their first win of the new season and did so in style, coming away with a 7-3 victory. Slazengers were quick off the mark and took the lead inside a couple of minutes, Jake Barras with a reverse stick strike following good work from Robin Whawell. Slazengers faced a tough task against a fast, skillful Leeds University side for their latest division 5 fixture. They knew they would have to play with lots of energy and great determination. So it was pleasing when for the first 20 minutes of the match they were the dominant team, playing good passing, aggressive hockey. Well what can be said about the start to the season for slazengers ladies second team? A 2-1 win against pocklington, a 6-0 win against canalside terriers brought us to a double header weekend. First came Saturdays match against Halifax third team. A tough game from the start but the team battled well and with a goal from Elle Poskett and 2 top of the net goals from Hannah Field a 3-0 victory was completed.
