Slazengers mens second team travelled to Sheffield Hallam 5’s on Saturday looking to record their first win of the new season and did so in style, coming away with a 7-3 victory.
Slazengers were quick off the mark and took the lead inside a couple of minutes, Jake Barras with a reverse stick strike following good work from Robin Whawell. Ben Graham doubled the lead and it was 3 inside 20 minutes with Graham grabbing his second, deflecting Aidan Hopkinson’s shot past the helpless keeper. Slazengers weren’t going to let up and continued to keep their work rate high pressing the opposition and netting a fourth with Rowan Tejura starting and finishing a move from right back. Hallam managed to grab a life line just before the break but it was still 4-1 at the half.
Hallam started the 2’nd half quickly buoyed by their goal and grabbed a second only for Slazengers to up the pressure once more. Hopkinson grabbed his first after a Jack Mumford shot had been expertly saved by the Hallam keeper and Barras added his 2’nd. Hopkinson completed a man of the match performance by adding an excellent 2nd goal. There was still time for Hallam to grab a late consolation but Slazengers came off deserving winners.
Slazengers will look to build on this performance at home to Leeds Gryphons 5’s on Saturday.
