We travelled to Harrogate for fixtures against local rivals, Wakefield, Bradford and Doncaster with a squad of 14 players. Although the weather was cold and windy, we were spared the rain/sleet that other squads and training at Slazenger encountered. The U10 girls A team took part in the minis hockey tournament on Sunday morning and gave an excellent and enthusiastic performance. Despite being drawn in a group in which all the teams were from higher divisions in the Yorkshire Hockey YHL, the girls were able to up their game and compete as equals. A relatively young (Average age of 7!) and inexperienced Slazenger U10 boys team arrived at Pocklington full of energy and were rewarded with promotion. Slazengers 0-0 York B The boys started well and tried to get the ball into the oppositions half, but the play remained in the centre of mid field as they got used to playing together and the competiveness of tournament games. Slazenger Mens 1st XI kicked off their league campaign with a convincing 6-1 victory over local rivals Wakefield Mens 3rd's. The first half was relatively even and although Slazengers controlled most of the possession, they found the Wakefield defence difficult to brake down.
