Slazenger mens 1st’s continued their run of success eventually coming out top against local rivals Wakefield 3rd’s. Slaz had an early start away to Wakefield, but some strong passing play across the pitch and attacking down the wings ensured that it wasn’t a wasted trip.
Wakefield employed a very experienced defence, which kept the Horbury side at bay. At times the home side did break away down the pitch, but fast interceptions and strong tackling from Simon Chamberlain left Wakefield few chances. Man of the match Jack Kitchen performed well at right back, with exceptional ball skills attacking down the right and good passing to finish the display.
In the end however, the strong defence of Wakefield could only hold out so long, before being overrun. A quality performance from winger Dan Perry; which any other week would have earned him man of the match; secured two great goals. Fast dribbling cut through the back line, with the first goal going straight into the roof of the net.
Centre midfield Mark Swindon secured the third to wrap up another strong performance from the horbury team. This result maintains their second place spot and keeps them in the hunt for promotion.
