In preparation for the resumption of their league programme, Slazenger enjoyed a fine win over Division 2 rivals Sunderland. Youngster Richard Whawell enjoyed a rare run out in the firsts, opened the scoring after just two minutes and Keith Whittle doubled the lead two minutes later. Slazenger thirds, desperate for points in Yorkshire League Division 6, lost out 2-0 in their closely fought game at Normanby Park seconds. Slazenger fourths surrendered a 2-0 half-time lead and were eventually beaten 3-2 by Boston Spa thirds. Veterans Ian Gordon, capitalised on Slazenger's superiority with two first half strikes but the second period witnessed some fiercely fought hockey.
