Report: 07-10-2000 โ€“ Mens 5th’s (2) vs. (1) Hull YPI

Despite last minute withdrawals, depleted Slazenger fifths took the honours as they won a hard-fought game at Hull YPI 2-1.

The match could have gone either way, with Slaz reaching into a 2-0 interval lead, courtesy of goals from Haydn Foster and Rob Stevens.

The second half saw intense pressure from Hull and Slaz conceded a goal to inject more tension into the game.

Slaz managed to hold on for the three points, with Foster and Ray Graham performing well, while defender Eddie Richardson was in super form.

Man of the match was Richard Hutchins, whose never-say-die tackling and attacking qualities personified the tremendous spirit within the fifths.

Report: 01-10-2000 – Boys U16 Tournament

Slaz U16’s fought hard but couldnt break through the York City A defence as they went 1-0 down.

Jonathan Clewlow had a good game in midfield but was blocked at every turn, while Eddie Richardson had a great game in defence.

The U16’s then had a bad day against Boston Spa as they were thumped 4-0.

Gavin Kaye and Neil Hutchins made vital tackles for Slaz, but weight of numbers and some clever short corner routines proved telling in the end as Spa held sway.

Report: 30-09-2000 – Mens 4th’s (5) vs. (0) Normanby Park

Slazenger 4ths enjoyed a convincing 5-0 victory in their first league clash of the season against Normanby Park.

Slaz dominated the usually strong Normanby outfit, with Ian Gordon putting them in front. By half-time, they were 3-0 up thanks to further strikes from Gordon, Dave Smyth and after the break, goas were netted by Smyth and Alan Killey

Report: 30-09-2000 – Mens 3rd’s (7) vs. (1) Huddersfield 5th’s

Slazenger 3rd’s warmed up for this week’s league programme start with a convincing 7-1 thrashing of Huddersfield 5th’s.

Andy Auty raced to a hat-trick with some lively forward play, while youngster Gavin Kaye and Richard whawell added two more with some delicate finishing.

Micky turner converted a flick to make it siz and Tony sidwell cooly converted the 7th, with a well-placed shot from the edge of the D.

Report: 01-04-2000 – Mens 5th’s (6) vs (0) Ben Rhydding

Division 9 champions Slazenger fifths gave a brilliant performance to beat a strong Ben Rhydding side 6-0.Slaz played their Division 7 opponents off the park with their usual fast-flowing passing led by Richard Baker and Jonathan Clewlow, who bagged a fantastic hat trick in man of the match display – with the duo consistently terrorising the visitors on both wings.

In midfield, Ian wiper and Simon Hurley dominated proceedings, with Slaz’s other goals scored by Baker and Kay (2)
