Report: 11-03-2000 – Ladies 1st’s (5) vs (1) Harrogate

Secure in the knowledge that they had already gained promotion, Slazenger Ladies were determined to complete their Yorkshire League 2 programme on a high – and that’s exactly what they did.

But it took an opening goal by Harrogate to wake the home side up.

Julie Bear equalised for Slazenger from an excellent short corner routine, closely followed by a lead-taker from Gwyn Barnett ,the player of the match.

After the break, Sue Swindon, Holly Tyers and Barnett added to the Slazenger goals tally.

Andrea Wallace, Carol Wakenshaw and Lisa Dransfield kept the pressure constantly high.

Report: 06-02-2000 – Boys U16’s Tournament

Slazenger had mixed fortunes against three of the top sides in the Yorkshire Boy’s U16’s League.

They earned a creditable 1-1 draw with Sheffield Bankers, James Swinden scoring for Slazenger and a third-match draw, also 1-1, with Harrogate, this time Gavin Kaye getting on the scoresheet. But the wheels came off in between when they were well-beaten by last season’s champions Gateshead.

Slazenger Ladies 1st’s stormed to a 3-0 win over Yorkshire League Division 2 rivals Harrogate.

Midfield players Sue Swinden and player of the match Gwyn Barnett provided plenty of balls for the Slazenger forwards.

Scorers were Holly Tyers, Julie Bear and Jackie Cooper. Julie Finch was denied goal number 4 when the Harrogate goalkeeper did well to save her penalty shot.
