November 17, 2001 by Slazenger HC

Two dismissals effectively cost Slazenger seconds their chance of turning the tables on visitors Harrogate thirds who ran out 2-0 victors. It was a ding-dong tussle with both sides creating chances. Harrogate netted in the first half but Slazenger were still very much in contention with Jonny White masterminding matters from midfield. But with two extra players Harrogate were able to exploit their advantage with a second goal.

Man of the match for Slazenger was Robert Wood.

Slazenger seconds travel to York thirds on Saturday, push back 3.30pm.

Report: 08-09-2001 – Mens 3rd’s (4) vs. (0) Harrogate 4th’s

September 8, 2001 by Slazenger HC

Early jitters gave way to a commanding performance by the third string that gained them a comprehensive opening day victory.

Slazenger were grateful to the work of defender Tony Sidwell and goalkeeper Thomas Penistone in those nervy stages.

John Sykes scored against the run of play from a short corner to set Slazenger or their way. And a second short corner goal from Graham Parker knocked some of the string out of the visitors.

Injuries forced Slazenger to change things around in the second half, but it seemed to work in their favour as they scored twice more through Sykes and skipper Geoff Birkett.

Lawrence Thornton had a fine debut game before being injured and Neil Hutchins also impressed. But man of the match honours went to Tony Sidwell for a faultless display at sweeper.

The thirds travel to Bradford on Saturday 3:15pm start.

Slazenger seconds took charge in this game from the fifth minute when Asad Baig finished off a well-worked move with the opening goal.

Midway through the half Richard Whawell doubled the tally after terrific work by Foster in midfield.

Slazenger then made it hard for themselves by conceding a goal against the run of play with a minute of the break.

The continuous assault on the Harrogate defence, however, paid off a fourth time when Rob Stevens netted.

Report: 08-09-2001 – Mens 1st’s (7) vs. (2) Harrogate 2nd’s

September 8, 2001 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger overcame a sluggish start and an early goal set-back to defeat Harrogate’s second string comprehensively.

Foundations for the victory were laid by the strong mid field work of Dave Kaye and Keith Whittle.

Whittle scored first from a short corner to equalise, Slazenger seemed in control but Harrogate hit back before half-time to trail just 3-2.

Slazenger finally gained full control midway through the second half and powered home.

Kev Windler finished with a hat trick in his debut game for Slazenger and centre-forward Mark Butel bagged a brace while captain Mark Swallow surged forward from the back to wrap up the scoring and beat his goals tally from last season.

Report: 09-09-2000 – Mens 3rd’s (5) vs (4) Harrogate 4th’s

September 9, 2000 by Slazenger HC

In a ding-dong match, Slaz came out victors with a cleverly deflected goal from Gavin Kaye in the last few minutes.

There never more than one goal in it with Slaz opening the scoring with a short corner strike from skipper Geoff Birkett.

After a reply from Harrogate, Martin Lofthouse pot Slaz back in front with a flick into the corner of the net from another short corner routine – only for Harrogate to hit back again.

Ian Wiper repeated the sequence again with a delightful flick over the keeper.

Harrogate then scored twice to go in front for the first time in the match, but Andy Auty set up Richard Whawell for the equaliser and then Gavin Kaye’s winner sealed it for Slaz.
