Report: 17-12-2006 – Girls U10’s

December 17, 2006 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger U10s Girls A ended the year on a high with a fantastic display of hockey in the final tournament of the year.

A 1-1 draw with Ben Rhydding was followed by a superb 5-1 victory over Doncaster thanks to goals from Rebecca Jessop, Ellie Spruce and Lucy Kent.

The victory lifted Slazenger’s confidence and they recorded a further 7-4 victory over Halifax before finishing the even with a close-fought victory over Rotherham.

Slazenger U10s Girls B team had mixed results in their tournament as they got off to a superb start with a 3-0 victory over rivals Wakefield B thanks to a brace from Kristina Hall-Jackson and Alex Willings.

Hall-Jackson continued her scoring as she netted in a 1-1 draw with Driffield before a 2-0 defeat to Leeds in their final game more than flattered their opponents.

Report: 26-03-2006 – Boys U10 Tournamenrt

March 26, 2006 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger U10s Boys played their last tournament of the season at Huntingdon and despite some disappointing results, they showed great progress.

With no chance of silverware this season, Slazenger gave boys who will still be young enough to play next season a run out.

The best result was an opening 0-0 draw with York B with Alex Byram and Isaac Fisher attacking well.

Defeats to Halifax, Bradford, Doncaster and Kirklees followed but despite this they defended well and showed great potential.

Report: 10-12-2005 – U12 Tournament at Leeds

December 10, 2005 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger gained three victories from their five matches in a Boys U12s hockey tournament at Leeds on Sunday.

Despite having the majority of possession in the opening game against York B, Slazengers failed to cash in but Isaac Fisher cooly scored after excellent work by man of the tournament Jack Kitchen, who beat three defenders before putting in a telling pass, to win 1-0.

A goal down within 30 seconds against Bradford, Slazengers never recovered and lost 6-0, the margin being kept down by solid goalkeeping from birthday boy Adam Davis.

Slazengers were more enthusiastic against Bingley, despite falling 3-1 victims, Jake Barras reducing the arrears.

Jenson Brook made some telling breaks from midfield and Thomas Kent was particularly strong with impeccably timed tackles to enable Slazengers to gain a 1-0 success over Kirklees, Jake Barras scoring.

The final match against Halifax was even until a moment of sublime skill, in which Daniel Perry beat half of the opposition before slotting in a long range effort.

Jake Barras improved the lead before Tom Logan, newly promoted from the U10s, was poleaxed by a vicious high ball which caught him on the thigh, but it did not deter Slazengers who managed another strike by Joe Dransfield to gain a 3-0 success.

Report: 13-02-2005 – Boys U12 Tournament

February 13, 2005 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger U12s took part in a series of tournament games and although they did not manage a win were pleased with their progress during the day.

In the first match, Slaz started strongly against a skilled Halifax team, producing a well struck goal from Chris Wood, but Halifax hit back to win.

Against Driffield the result was a draw but Daniel Perry and Jake Barras both had half chances up front and posed a serious threat to the Driffield defence. It was however a competent and composed keeping by Jack Mumford and splendid tackling from Robert Furness that kept Slaz in the game.

The game against Normanby Park was a scrappy one, but both teams showed the will to win.

Good midfield play from Aled Davies with decisive tackling made Slaz look good on the counter attack, but Park took the glory with a great solo effort.

Against Ben Rhydding, Slaz’ were caught hibernating in the first minute, but then produced the best hockey of the day with good linking play down the wings from Ailish Hendry at the back, through Chris Wood, to Adam Driver up front, they looked like a team on a mission, but lacked the finish.

In the final match Jake Barras scored early on from a lovely cross, but L A Metros came back into it.

Strong defending from James Dransfield and Aled Davies, gave Chris Wood a belting strike from the top of the D but it was disallowed and L A Metros later equalized.

Report: 05-02-2005 – Mens 2nd’s (2) vs. (4) Halifax 2nd’s

February 5, 2005 by Slazenger HC

A game in which Slazenger were hoping to take maximum points never materialised due to sloppy passing and ill discipline.

Slazenger conceded after 18 minutes following their own inability to pass the ball around the midfield, but the turning point came on the half hour when Tom Penistone in the Slaz’ goal was sin-binned for ten minutes for fighting with the opposition.

Young Lee Secker kitted up and went in goal but was unable to keep out two well worked short corner routines to leave the home side 3-0 down at half time and playing like a side who had condemned themselves to relegation.

The second half began mush brighter and Slaz’ dominated posession with Croucher, Carr and Hutchins linking up well from the middle and Amesbury dominating in defence.

The new impetus in Slaz play created two finely taken goals by Richardson and the home side were back in it but then their indiscipline got the better of them again s they chased a late equaliser with Hutchins and Walker sent off for dissent within seconds of each other.

Chasing the game with only nine men proved to be difficult then with Croucher taking an early break Slaz were never in with a chance as Halifax scored a decisive fourth goal in the final minutes.

Slaz will need to improve their discipline if they want to stay in the league and get points against high flying Hallam at home next week.
