Slaz got off to a great start moving the ball round and not showing any signs of weakness. An early evening match for the Slazenger 5ths saw the floodlights light up the Horbury sky as they battled against Doncaster. The back four of Dave Smith, Danny Croxall, Matthew Chilton and Adam Drake held the line well protecting Harry Buttery in goal. Slazenger Mens 3's were looking for a good response to their recent defeat to Lincoln and were not disappointed with their efforts against Doncaster. Slaz travelled to Doncaster with a weakened side; only 8 of the regular 16 deep squad being available, and only 11 man squad; no subs. However, the team were looking to maintain the early season momentum, and stay at the top of the table. The team began quickly. A new season and some new faces but still a side with an average age of 8 took part in the first tournament of the year starting in Division C against some older and more experienced teams.
