Boys U12's

Report: 12-11-2006 – Boys U12’s Tournament

November 10, 2006 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger U12s entered two teams in the Boys hockey tournament at the weekend – for the first time ever.

Slazenger A impressed with three victories and two draws against strong opposition.

Jake Barras led the scoring for Slazenger with midfield Daniel Perry also adding while Sam Maunsell found the net on his debut.

Slazenger B drew two and lost three as their new look team took time to gel.

Jenson Brook and James Bennett worked tirelessly in the Slazenger midfield, while Joe Dransfield impressed in attack and goalkeeper Katie Firth did well to keep out the opposition attack.

Report: 12-02-2006 – Boys U12 Tournament

February 12, 2006 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger U12s played in the latest tournament and produced some excellent performances.

The programme was shortened to a four matches because of the school holidays.

Slazenger held their first opponents Normandy Park B to a creditable 0-0 draw, given that the opposition had borrowed several players from their A team.

The team had to battle hard with Danny Perry and the rest of the Slazenger midfield putting in a lot of effort.

York B were not quite of the same standard as Normanby but there were still chances at both ends with goalkeeper Adam Davis and defender Thomas Kent making saves before Jack Kitchen netted for Slazenger.

Next followed Chapeltown with nothing to split the two teams with Jack Barras going close for Slazenger.

Chapeltown scored the only goal with a well-taken shot.

The final game was against the strongest side in the group, Thirsk, which ended in a goalless draw after some resolute defending.

Worthy of a special mention are Jenson Brook, Tom Logan and Isaac Fisher, who not only played all the Slazenger games but played three matches for Normanby, who were short of players.

Report: 15-01-2006 – Boys U10 Tournament

January 15, 2006 by Slazenger HC

Slazengers failed to turn lots of possession into goals when they took part in an U12 boys hockey tournament at Leeds on Sunday. Starting against York, newcomer James Bennertt quickly adapted to the pace of the game and caused problems in the opposing goalmouth, but it ended in a goalless draw.

Normanby Park were the best team in the group, but Slazenger acquitted themselves well with goal chances at both ends before going down 1-0. Not deterred, Slazengers approached the match with a physically larger Driffield in positive fashion and fine work from keeper Adam Davis saw them share the spoils in a goalless draw.

The scoreline remained blank against Kirklees, and the final match with Bingley was the biggest disappointment with more chances going begging before losing 1-0.

Report: 10-12-2005 – U12 Tournament at Leeds

December 10, 2005 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger gained three victories from their five matches in a Boys U12s hockey tournament at Leeds on Sunday.

Despite having the majority of possession in the opening game against York B, Slazengers failed to cash in but Isaac Fisher cooly scored after excellent work by man of the tournament Jack Kitchen, who beat three defenders before putting in a telling pass, to win 1-0.

A goal down within 30 seconds against Bradford, Slazengers never recovered and lost 6-0, the margin being kept down by solid goalkeeping from birthday boy Adam Davis.

Slazengers were more enthusiastic against Bingley, despite falling 3-1 victims, Jake Barras reducing the arrears.

Jenson Brook made some telling breaks from midfield and Thomas Kent was particularly strong with impeccably timed tackles to enable Slazengers to gain a 1-0 success over Kirklees, Jake Barras scoring.

The final match against Halifax was even until a moment of sublime skill, in which Daniel Perry beat half of the opposition before slotting in a long range effort.

Jake Barras improved the lead before Tom Logan, newly promoted from the U10s, was poleaxed by a vicious high ball which caught him on the thigh, but it did not deter Slazengers who managed another strike by Joe Dransfield to gain a 3-0 success.

Report: 13-11-2005 – Boys U12 Tournament

November 13, 2005 by Slazenger HC

PROGRESSIVE hockey ensured Slazenger Boys U12s’ second tournament of the season proved a much more encouraging experience.

Slazenger won their opening match against York B with Jack Kitchen sinking the only goal.

The second game was a much tougher affair against a technically superior Chapeltown side.

After conceding two early goals, Slazengers came storming back into the game with Isaac Fisher grabbing a goal and putting the Chapeltown side onto the back foot.

Injuries to Jake Barras and playmaker Danny Perry in the third game led to a 5-0 reversal at the hands of Harrogate.

Slazenger lost out 2-0 to Thirks in their penultimate encounter.

And in the final match, Slazenger were down to five outfield players who, despite tiring, managed several excellent attempts on the opposition goal.
