Adel

Report: 22-09-2001 – Mens 2nd’s (0) vs (5) Adel 2nd’s

September 22, 2001 by Slazenger HC

If chances were goals then Slazenger seconds should have had acricket score against Adel seconds, but in the end it was down to finishing and the hosts had the edge in this department to win 5-0.

Adel are two leagues above Slazenger and were just too clinical in front of goal, scoring all five goals from breaks against the general run of play.

Slazenger can, however take some consolation from the performance and the sound individual displays of Bob Wood, Paul Wiper and man of the match Jonny White.

The seconds travel to Halifax seconds on Saturday start 1.30pm.

Report: 22-09-2001 – Mens 1st’s (5) vs (1) Adel 1st’s

September 22, 2001 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger’s last friendly before the league programme gets underway was return to winning ways and dazzling form for the Horbury outfit.

Slazenger turned out a performance reminiscent of last season’s championship winning form. Mark Swindon put them one up early on from a well-worked short corner routine, but Adel withstood further pressure to deny Slazenger further goals before half-time.

After fending off a brief rally, Slazenger scored a second midway through the second half through Mark Butel, who quickly added a second from another short corner routine.  Swindon completed the scoring after good work by Butel and a fifth came courtesy of Nick Whittle, two minutes from time. Man of the match was Kev Windler.

All now looks good for the season and Saturday as Slazenger play Halifax in the first league match a home, 1:30pm.

Report: 10-03-2001 – Mens 1st’s (5) vs (2) Adel

March 10, 2001 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger continued their surge towards the East Pennine League second division with a convincing win over strong opposition.

Slazenger went on the defensive from the whistle then broke out for man of the match Mark Butel to score after only four minutes.

Webb made it 2-0 before half time but Adel pegged one back in the second half from a flicked short corner.

It proved to be merely a wake-up call for Slazenger who made it three through James Swindon.

Adel claimed a second goal, again from a short corner, but Slazenger’s defence got back to its best and from there on in, it was on-way traffic.

Butel powered a shot across the D for Gilston to deflect it in and Butel claimed his second from the penalty spot to wrap up the scoring after Gilston had been felled by the goalkeeper. Slazenger play Huddersfield on Saturday, push back 1.30pm.

Slazenger Vets edged a close contest with Adel 2-1 in a high-speed encounter.

Adel opened the scoring off a short corner, but Slazenger then matched Adel play-for-play.

George hutchins pulled off an excellent save to keep Slazenger in contention, then sustained pressure either side of half-time led to an equalising goal for Graham Parker.

Excellent defensive work by Ian Wiper kept Adel at bay before Martin Lofthouse struck with the winner just a few minutes from the final whistle.
