After a slightly late start on a cold day Slazengers were straight on the attack with a short corner awarded within the first minute. Slazenger U16 Boys made a great start to 2014 by returning to the top of the YYHL Division 1 following an unbeaten outing to Harrogate on Sunday. Fresh from the holiday festivities, the team faced main rivals City of York as well as teams from Ben Rhydding and Harrogate. Slazengers mens 2nd team shook off the cobwebs after a long Christmas break to come out 6-4 winners against Sheffield Hallam mens 5ths. In reality, there should have been further distance between the teams but a couple of defensive lapses by Slazengers allowed Hallam back into the game. The game started strongly for both sides with both teams having chances but Slazengers defence was strong. After many attacks before half time finally the first goal was scored by Slazengers. After half time Slazengers continued to push strongly and managed to get 2 more goals from skilful open play and then another goal in the final play of the game which was a short corner.
