Report: 02-10-1999 – Mens 3rd’s (0) vs (1) City of York 6th’s

October 2, 1999 by Slazenger HC

Determined play by Simon Taylor at right half was the only bright spot in an otherwise lack-luster performance from Slazenger thirds who were edged out 1-0 by visitors City of York sixths.

The goal was a cruel blow despite Slazenger’s poor performance as it came off the very last hit of the game.

Goalkeeper Thomas Penistone impressed for Slazenger

Slazenger thirds will have to lift their game for Saturday’s short trip to College Grove where they will take on neighbours and rivals Wakefield fourths, push back 3pm.

Report: 02-10-1999 – Mens 2nd’s (0) vs (5) Sheffield 4th’s

October 2, 1999 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger seconds struggled to get into their stride against hosts Sheffield fourths.

And as a result, they trailed 2-0 at half time and slumped to a heavy 5-0 defeat.

Birkett had a great chance to open Slazenger’s account early in the second half but wasted an open goal chance.

That was pretty much the story of the second half, Slazenger creating chances but failing to tuck them away.

Goalkeeper John Bagshaw took the man of the match award despite the scoreline – no else deserved it.

On Saturday, Slazenger seconds travel to York fourths, push back 2pm.

Report: 02-10-1999 – Mens 1st’s (3) vs (0) Sheffield 3rd’s

October 2, 1999 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger came out with all guns blazing at home to Sheffield thirds and were rewarded for their gun-toting style with a 3-0 victory.

It took the home side just ten minutes to settle into their formidable, confident rhythm, then man of the match Mark Butel fired into the roof of the net on the net on the end of a dramatic solo run.

After further relentless pressure, Slazenger added two more goals through Jonny Wiper, a flick-on from a short corner and Andrew Forman, tucking away a rebound off a short corner routine.

Slazenger created many more chances to score, but had to settle for a ‘modest’ three – definitely a game to be proud of.

On Saturay, Slazenger take on Hull YPI, 1:30pm.

Report: 25-09-1999 – Ladies 1st’s (6) vs (0) Leeds University

September 25, 1999 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger Ladies first team continued their formidable winning form with a 6-0 drubbing of Leeds University.

Slazenger out-played their opponents and were 2-0 up by half time through goals by player of the match Holly Tyers.

Four more goals after the break by Tyers, Julie Bear, Gwyn Barnett and Andrea Wallace killed off a spirited Leeds side.

Julie Finch and Katrina Pickles were outstanding at the back for Slazenger.

Report: 25-09-1999 – Mens 5th’s (6) vs (2) Halifax 4th’s

September 25, 1999 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger fifths opened their Yorkshire League campaign with a 6-2 success over Halifax fourths.

Slazenger led 3-1 at half-time but Halifax improved dramatically after the break. A pinched fourth, however, set Slazenger back on track but they still had to find that extra gear to kill off determined opposition.

Scorers were Foster (2), Rivers (2), O’Shea and Baker.
