Report: 27-11-1999 – Mens 2nd’s (1) vs (1) Tadcaster 1st’s

Slazenger seconds battled out a 1-1 draw with Tadcaster firsts.

Slazenger approached the match in confident mood after a strong performance the previous week. However, Tadcaster struggling at the wrong end of the table belied their position with an enterprising start that produced a surprised early goal.

Slazenger hit back almost immediately. For the rest of the half, they played fast, skillful hockey.

Mark Swinden produced a powerful performance to earn himself the man of the man of the match award, but it was not until late in the half, after a succession of penalty corners that Slazenger drew level.

They won a penalty flick and Stu Howie returning after a long break, stepped up to convert with confidence.

Slazenger dominated the second half but were unable to translate their authority into goals.

On Saturday, Slazenger are away to Harrogate thirds.

Report: 27-11-1999 – Mens 1st’s (4) vs (0) Normanby Park

Slazenger burst back to winning ways with a fluid four goal display to firmly establish themselves at the top of division 2 in the Yorkshire League.

Industrious Mick Webb crowned a man-of-the-match performance with two well-taken goals and two scores from Mark Butel confirmed Slazenger’s overall superiority.

Dave Hellam secured another clean sheet in goal.

On Saturday, Slazenger entertain top-of-the-table rivals Acomb and have the perfect opportunity to confirm their credentials as a championship force.

Report: 21-11-1999 – U14 Boys

Slazenger U14’s celebrated 2:1 victory ratio from their latest round of matches.

The side defeated Boston Spa 2-0, lost out to Bradford 1-0, but got back on track with a 1-0 win over Scarborough.

Jonathan Clewlow played solidly at centre-half throughout the three games.

James Walker, Gareth Ventom, Ryan Ratcliffe and Gavin Kaye also had standout games for Slazenger.

Report: 20-11-1999 – Ladies 2nd’s (1) vs (5) Ben Rhydding

Slazenger ladies seconds were thwarted by a grass pitch at Ben Rhydding. The side tumbled to a 5-1 defeat.

Ben Rhydding established a 4-0 lead by half time, but Slazenger showed terrific resilience and strength of character in the second half to finish it on equal terms. Laura Kenny finally getting Slazenger on the score-sheet ten minutes from time in response to the Ben Rhydding fifth.

There were outstanding contributions from player of the match Beth Millman, Kate Garside, Donna Simpson and Sarah Brown.

Report: 20-11-1999 – Ladies 1st’s (3) vs (0) Harrogate

November 20, 1999 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger Ladies 1st’s stormed to a 3-0 win over Yorkshire League Division 2 rivals Harrogate.

Midfield players Sue Swinden and player of the match Gwyn Barnett provided plenty of balls for the Slazenger forwards.

Scorers were Holly Tyers, Julie Bear and Jackie Cooper. Julie Finch was denied goal number 4 when the Harrogate goalkeeper did well to save her penalty shot.
