Slazenger's first trip up north took its toll as they went down 4-2 to a strong Stockton side. The long trip left the Hobury-based visitors on the back foot from the start and they were forced to defend as the Stockton forwards piled on the pressure. Fifteen seconds was all it took for Keith Whittle to open the scoring for Slazenger and send them on their way to an exciting 4-3 win over visiting Bradford. The hosts added to this just a minute later through Butel's reverse stick shot that established a 2-0 lead in less than two minutes. Report: 05-10-2002 – Mens 3rd’s (3) vs. (1) Chapeltown 2nd’s

Slazenger Thirds also got their season off to a flier following a 3-1 success over visiting Chapeltown Seconds. The hosts dominated the game throughout but were held in a goalless first half.
