After recording victories over the top two teams in the league in the previous weeks, Slazengers mens 2nd team were brought back down to earth by a strong Hull side, eventually losing 4-3. Hull were quick out of the blocks and their midfield began controlling things, creating chances for the Hull side. Some smart defending and good saves by keeper Ralph Toon kept the scoreline level. It was Slazengers who took the lead when Robin Brearton burst into the box and unleashed a ferocious shot into the top corner. Hull probably didn’t deserve to be losing and were soon back level when a well worked short corner paid dividends. Hull continued to be the better side and went in at the break 2-1 up after scoring a second just before half time.
Slazengers came out for the 2nd half determined to increase their intensity and give Hull more of a game in the centre of the park and it was this pressure which led to the equalizer. Jake Barras picked up a lose ball and smashed home a reverse stick shot from the top of the ‘d’. The Hull midfield seemed to have the better of Slazengers throughout the game with the Slazengers guys struggling to deal with the formation Hull were playing and although they worked hard, it was Hull who took the lead once again. Slazengers pressed for the equalizer once again only for Hull to hit them on the break to double their lead. Slazengers pulled one back through Ben Graham near the end but there wasn’t time to mount a come back and Hull held on for a deserved victory.
Slazengers will look to bounce back from this setback next week away to Sheffield University Bankers.
