Slazenger U16 Boys have stormed up the league after they enjoyed a clean sweep of three wins from their trip to the KC Stadium in Hull.
They received a morale-booster in their first game, beating league leaders Driffield 2-1. Jake Barras opened the scoring and despite Driffield leveling the scores, Slazenger won the game with Chris Woods strike.
A local derby against Wakefield brought out the best in Slazenger youngsters and goals from Phil Midgley, Wood and Jack Mumford ensured a 3-0 success. The final game saw Slazenger take on the tournaments other unbeaten side Kirklees and Wood got the match off to a dream start with a goal on 40 seconds.
In an end-to-end game, Greg Moorhouse put Kirklees back on level terms only for Midgley to restore Slazenger’s lead. Moorhouse equalised yet again but Dave Nimmo’s strike and Wood’s fourth goal of the day earned a 4-2 win and rounded off a great tournament for Slazenger.
