September 24, 2016 by Slazenger HC

In the opening game of the season Slazenger 4th’s travelled away to Brigg in what was to be a thrilling end to end openly played game.

Brigg had taken a 2 goal lead in the first half. However with the last minute of play before half time, a high ball across the d was plucked from the air and deposited into the back of the Brigg net by captain Steve Johnson.

The second half was set for the 4 young debutant 4th team players to make their mark: Dan Cass; James Armitage, Davey Ramsdale and Harry Buttery. They didn’t disappoint in what was to be a second half demolition job by Slazenger 4.

Final score 4-3; with a further brace from Captain Johnson to Slazenger 4th team.

Report: 19-12-2015 – Mens 4th’s (5) vs. (2) Chapeltown 4th’s

December 19, 2015 by Slazenger HC

Slazengers 4s finished their 2015 with a home game against Chapeltown who have provided a few tasty clashes over the years so it was not a game to be missed.

Slaz started brightly with many attacking opportunities created through Steve Johnson and eventually they scored with a short corner from Harry Gunning. However Slaz went into the break undeservedly behind as Chapeltown scored two against the run of play. After half-time the home team went straight into the 2nd half with intent to score.

The midfield of Sam Haigh, Dan Tiffany and Andy Fisher were dominating the play and created bags of chances for Josh Dunstan and Chris Gascgoine upfront. This was reflected in the final scoreline as Slaz ran riot with 4 goals in the second half to come out winners in the final match of the year. Man of the match went to Harry Gunning for contributing 2 goals.

Slaz start again in 2016 on 16th December against Brigg at home.

Report: 05-12-2015 – Mens 4th’s (1) vs. (3) Worksop 2nd’s

December 5, 2015 by Slazenger HC

After a slow start Slaz 4 found themselves trailing 3-0 after 20 minutes. Not to despair new comers to the team Dene Minichalla and Josh Swallow dropped into mid field to help plug the gaps, the tide was turning on the run in to half time.

Debutant stand in Captain Steve Johnson rallied the team in the break, and Slaz 4s set about the second half with a steely determination. Tony Walker made several crucial saves of the line which allowed some powerful clearance balls to be made out of defence by Scouse.

Geoff Birkett and Harry Gunning gained control in the middle of the field and delivered good ball to the forwards. Slaz were now in the game, and after several good breaks down the right wing by Chris Gascgoine got their just reward when steve Johnson’s shot was deflected by the keeper and put in off the line by Josh Swallow.

Final score 3-1.

Report: 21-11-2015 – Mens 4th’s (5) vs. (1) Sheffield Hallam 8th’s

November 21, 2015 by Slazenger HC

2015-11-21 - M4 - Harry_Gunning

Slaz finally had a home game and entertained an experienced Sheffield Hallam side. With captain Danny Croxall sidelined due to injury and acting as coach, the slaz side had a higher amount of experience this week. The first half was very entertaining for spectators as the game was end to end. However no goals were scored in the first half.

The 2nd half started well for slaz as centre midfielder Geoff Birkett took control of the game. Slaz had a range of goals with two penalty flicks from Harry Gunning, a goal from a short corner from Sam Haigh and a breakaway goal from star striker Steve “Seasick” Johnson. This gave Slaz a confirmed victory but Hallam had a consolation goal to deny Dan Alderson a deserved clean sheet.

Next week Slaz have a double weekend away to Hull on Saturday and at home to Lindum on Sunday at 12.30.

After half time Slaz pulled one back through a fortunate strike from Josh Dunstan but it wasn’t enough to create a fightback as Driffield scored 3 more to round off a deserved victory.

Report: 07-11-2015 – Mens 4th’s (0) vs. (6) Doncaster 6th’s

November 7, 2015 by Slazenger HC

Slaz 4s were finally at home after 4 weeks against a much more experienced Doncaster side which would prove to be a key factor.

In the first half Doncaster scored 2 goals which were deserved of the run of play as Slaz were constantly under pressure from a strong Doncaster attack.

Them after the break Slaz began to play better hockey and threatened the Doncaster goal with numerous short corners without an end product. Then in the last 20 minutes Doncaster ran riot as a very young Slaz side began to tire and conceded another 4 to bring the final score to 6-0.

Next week Slaz 4s are back on the road again with an away trip to Driffield.

Report: 31-10-2015 – Mens 4ths (0) vs. (3) Brigg 4th’s

Report: 24-10-2015 – Mens 4’s (1) vs. (1) Lindum 7th’s

October 24, 2015 by Slazenger HC

Slazengers 4s continued their campaign away at Lindum 7th’s in a tight encounter. It was a very tense first half with many short corners going Lindums way but were very well defended by Slaz. At half time both teams were positive and were wanting to score that crucial first goal which may win them the game. Lindum had a very good shout for a goal but was disallowed as the shot came from outside the circle so Slaz remained with a clean sheet.

Eventually the pressure became too much as Lindum scored a lucky goal with a deflected shot which lobbed goalkeeper Dan Alderson to take the lead. After Slaz began to create chances but discipline was lacking as Sam Haigh, Ben Stevenson and Josh Dunstan were all in the sin bin at different intervals for not retreating 5 yards from the ball which made it even harder for the greens. In the last two minutes Slaz pulled one back with a brilliant strike from Neil Stacey to even the game up.

The greens could’ve had another with the final whistle being blown as Slaz were about to shoot at goal to end the game. A very fair result and man of the match goes to goal scorer Neil Stacey to round off a great performance but also the midfield of Sam Haigh, Chris Gascgoine and debutant Harry Lumb produced solid showings.

Report: 10-10-2015 – Mens 4th’s (3) vs. (3) Wakefield 6th’s

October 10, 2015 by Slazenger HC

Slaz 4s played their first local derby of the season against Wakefield 7th’s. The early encounters were close with chances coming for both side until Wakefield scored from a short corner to lead 1-0. Then the opponents struck again from a short to double their advantage.

Then Slaz struck just before half time to narrow the deficit through John Sykes. After an inspirational team talk at half time Slaz drew level straight after the break through a great run from Josh Dunstan to make it 2-2. Wakefield then scored again in open play to create a 3-2 lead. Then a John Sykes miss-hit shot made it 3-3 which was the final score.

It was an exceptional performance from a Slaz side which included 8 under 19’s which included a great full back pairing of Ben Stevenson and Tristan Whittle; the midfield of Harry Gunning, Chris Gascoigne and Sam Haigh operated well throughout the game.

Slaz were on the up with another great goal from James walker with a strike from the top of the circle.
