Report: 24-09-2016 – Ladies 2nd’s (2) vs. (0) Halifax 2nd’s

September 24, 2016 by Slazenger HC

So the season started with a fresh looking team; moving up into a higher league and ready for the challenge of playing an established team.

Slazengers were on the attack straight away having a lot of the attacking possession. New girl to the club Tuscany Mellor scored the first goal for Slazengers giving them the lead they deserved and before half time Claire Dunstan put another away.

After half time there were a few saves from Halifax the most notable being Claire Dunstans narrow miss with the post! The game finished 2-0 to Slazengers after a great effort from everyone. A clean sheet for Lisa Chappell on her return and Man of the match for Mollie Gilbert who had a strong game in defence.

Well done ladies.

Slazengers got off to a struggling start with visitors Halifax putting the pressure on early with significant attempts on goal. However, the girls in green remained strong defensively with consistent impressive saves in the air from their GK; Tracey Lorriman. After a tough opening phase, Slazengers took the lead with a goal from Jessica Rudge.

After a change in formation into the the second half, Slazengers stepped up their pace and were challenging Halifax even more than they anticipated and dominated the game.

Halifax then levelled the score line at 1-1 which did not dishearten the team but caused them to dig deep for another. Shortly followed a goal from Frankie Tyrell who gave Slazengers the advantage they needed with a 2-1 lead.

As tensions rose Halifax had a player suspended from the pitch and Slazengers were able to maintain their lead. However, in the closing minutes, Halifax managed to score another goal which lead to a 2-2 draw.

Overall an impressive game with great team spirit.

Report: 15-11-2015 – Ladies 2nd’s (0) vs. (3) Halifax 2nd’s

November 14, 2015 by Slazenger HC

Going into the second round of the cup we knew things would be difficult playing against a team in a higher league. Slazengers started well with a lot of attacking play and Halifax not having much action.

At half time Slazengers still couldn’t get a goal in despite many opportunities. Some extra Halifax players arrived then giving them extra fresh legs and they managed to score 3 in the second half and despite valiant efforts Slazengers just couldn’t get past the Halifax keeper.

End result 3-0 to Halifax but a well battled game. Player went to Alex Gilbert.

Report: 03-10-2015 – Ladies 1st’s (3) vs. (5) Halifax 1st’s

October 3, 2015 by Slazenger HC

Slazengers ladies first team got off to a great start this Saturday, with an early goal in the first 4 minutes. A visionary pass into the circle from Andrea Wallace to the far post was secured nicely into the back of the net by Helen Hough. Despite a large amount of support from the Slaz sideline, the lead was short lived. Halifax retaliated with a goal in the next two minutes and another goal at 8 minutes.

Some strong play from both teams gave a few chances for goals at either end of the pitch, but Slazengers were next to score. 5 minutes before half time, Helen Hough slipped an underarm pass to Jessica Rudge who finalised the goal, to finish the first half at 2-2.

Halifax came back strongly at half time, scoring quickly after the restart at 37 minutes and followed with 2 more goals. Slaz replied at 66 minutes with top goal scorer Jessica Rudge scoring again, but it was too late for Slaz who suffered a 5-3 loss. Commendable performances went to Lisa Minchella and debut star Alice Gascoigne.

Report: 21-03-2015 – Mens 2nd’s (2) vs. (3) Halifax 2nd’s

March 21, 2015 by Slazenger HC

Slazengers mens 2nd team suffered only their 2nd defeat in 8 games at home to Halifax on Saturday, eventually losing 3-2. Halifax were a skillful direct side and Slazengers struggled to adjust their play to suit. Early pressure came meaning the Slazengers defence and keeper were having to work hard to keep Halifax at bay. Somewhat against the run of play, Slazengers took the lead when a deflected cross fell to John Sykes who dispatched a bouncing ball first time to score.

Halifax responded well and changed their system pushing 3 players high. Slazengers struggled to cope and eventually went in at half time 2-1 down. The second half saw Slazengers lose Dan Atkinson through injury and whilst Slazengers were re-organising, Halifax increased their lead. Slazengers didn’t lie down however and began to put Halifax under pressure forcing a free hit outside the ‘d’. Matt Stacey took this himself driving into the ‘d’ before beating the defender and firing home to bring Slazengers within one.

Halifax defended well for the rest of the game and despite Slazengers best efforts, they didn’t look like they were going to get the equaliser. Slazengers will look to bounce back on Saturday away at Huddersfield.

Report: 08-11-2014 – Mens 2nd’s (0) vs. (0) Halifax 2nd’s

November 8, 2014 by Slazenger HC

Slazengers mens second team travelled to Halifax on Saturday coming away with a 0-0 draw but have only themselves to blame as they dominated possession and chances throughout. The marker was laid almost immediately when Jake Barras got on the end of a neat passing move only to be thwarted by an in form Halifax keeper. Shortly after Slazengers hit the post twice, firstly through Simon Chamberlain and then Brett Cunningham.

Midway through the half James Cowden in the Slazengers goal was called upon to make his only save of the game and did so with comfort. Slazengers had a number of short corners towards the end of the half but couldn’t convert.

The second half was much of the same, Slazengers controlling possession and creating numerous chances only to be found wanting in front of goal. Man of the match Matt Banks was excellent in the centre of midfield distributing well to all areas of the pitch and it was he who had the final chance, driving into the ‘D’ and unleashing a fierce shot only to be once again denied by the Halifax keeper. Slazengers will try to get back to winning ways at home to Leeds on Saturday.

Report: 01-03-2014 – Mens 1st’s (5) vs. (4) Halifax 1st’s

March 1, 2014 by Slazenger HC

Halifax put the pressure on as they were top of league.  They were physical, forced play and slaz began to make mistakes.

Halifax broke through the D and rocketed a vertical reverse stick into the top of the net. Slaz kept going and looked deadly when breaking on the Halifax high press.  man of match Dan perry tore the Halifax defence apart for Richard Tuddenham to gain chances and free shots from short corners.  the game was gripping end to end stuff for the spectators.  and a exciting open one for both teams both looking for the next goal as both knew they wouldn’t be able to sit back on their lead when they had it.

All the slaz players had a great game. Richard Tuddenham got 3, Dan Perry got one and Mark Swindon got the last. The final 5 min saw Halifax equalise and slaz get the final goal on the break to win.

Report: 11-01-2014 – Ladies 2nd’s (4) vs. (0) Halifax 3rd’s

January 11, 2014 by Slazenger HC

The game started strongly for both sides with both teams having chances but Slazengers defence was strong. After many attacks before half time finally the first goal was scored by Slazengers.

After half time Slazengers continued to push strongly and managed to get 2 more goals from skilful open play and then another goal in the final play of the game which was a short corner. Halifax had tried to get a goal but Slazengers defence was too strong. A clean sheet for the defence with the final score being 4-0 to Slazengers.

A fantastic all round team effort with a goal from Daisy Gee Sanders and a hat trick for Naomi Horsley. Man of the match went jointly to Naomi Horsley and Andrea Wallace.

Report: 23-11-2013 – Mens 4th’s (2) vs. (1) Halifax 4th’s

November 23, 2013 by Slazenger HC

Slazengers 4ths played Halifax 4’s on Saturday in a nail biting match. It started well for slaz with a goal from Steve Johnson giving them a 1-0 lead and providing them with the confidence they needed to make it to the end of the 1st half on top.

The glory was short lived as Halifax managed to pull it back to an even 1-1 as they made a fast break down the middle. The two teams fought it out with Slaz’s strong defence holding back the full force of the Halifax attack and the fearless Darren Buttery making tremendous saves in goal on his debut. It looked doubtfully either team would score has it came to the last 2 minutes, but then once again Steve Johnson appeared and slotted in a trickling fashion the ball in to the bottom corner of the net.

Tom Pitchforth gave a man of the match performance helping the team to the 2-1 victory.

Report: 16-11-2013 – Mens 1st’s (1) vs. (4) Halifax 1st’s

November 16, 2013 by Slazenger HC

Slaz were under a lot of pressure from the top of league team but seemed to handle it well for most of the game. Slaz created some good chances but were unable to capitalise.

Dan Perry made good runs and stud up to a physical side well and never gave up. Richard Tuddenham scored the only goal from a nice short corner routine.

At the other end of the pitch Tom Murray had a great debut making some great saves to keep slaz in with a chance for the whole 1st half. But 10 min into the 2nd half Halifax got 2 break through goals to make a comeback unlikely. Slaz pushed the Halifax defence and created so good chance that could have turned the game again.

Man of match Tom Murray
