Slazenger mens first powered to a 3-0 win over Roundwood on Saturday. Roundwood have provided formidable opposition in previous years but Slazenger were on top for much of this game and drilled home their advantage with goals scored on a regular basis. Report: 18-09-1999 – Mens 5th’s (8) vs (5) Ben Rhydding 8th’s

Slazenger fifths found their opening league fixture on grass tough going, And, despite scoring five goals, eventually went down 8-5 to hosts Ben Rhydding 8th's. Slazenger trailed 4-1 at half-time but rallied to draw level at 4-4 before finally giving second best to their hosts. Scorers were Haydn Foster (2), Gavin Kaye, Richard O'Shea and Paul Whitham. Man of the match was debutant Anwar Al-Khaili. A Good first half from Slazenger fourths laid the foundations for success over Ben Rhydding sevenths. The horbury men won by a 5-2 margin. Scorers were Ian Gordon, Ian Wiper and Dave Smyth. Slazenger thirds pulled away from Bradford fourths in the final quarter to sink three goals and take a 4-1 win from what had, until then, been a closely-faught, highly paced encounter. Scorers for Slazenger, after Bradford had stung the Horbury side with a breakaway goal, were Richard Whawell, Andy Auty and James Swinden. Halftime changes turned things around for Slazenger seconds who defeated Bradford's third string 4-1. Walker and man of the match Sykes eased Slazenger clear after the break while midfielders Swinden and Grange laid the foundations for Sykes' second. Grange blasted home a fourth after good work by Stu Howie who had dropped back effectively into midfield.
