Slazenger got off to a slow start, but eventually found top gear. The visitors thwarted a lot of the Wakefield side's attacks and it took until ten minutes before the break for Slazenger to break the deadlock. Slazenger Thirds failed to take advantage of superior posession and went down 3-2 at Kings Cross. The visitors went a goal down after a poor start and although Ian Wiper levelled matters, Slazenger found themselves 3-1 down at half-time. Slazenger enjoyed a lot of possession and had numerous chances but were unable to break down Gateshead who snatched victory with a late goal.
