Slazenger 1st XI warmed up for the upcoming league season with an excellent 7-2 home victory against a strong Derwent 1sts outfit - inspired by the efforts of Richard Hutchings. Slazenger seconds took a huge step towards safety with a hard fought and well deserved victory away at Bankers fourths. It was always going to be a tough game with Bankers pushing for promotion, but it was Slazenger who wanted it more and pressed straight from the off. The following day, Slazenger seconds were at home in a re-arranged fixture against Bradford University firsts in a real must win relegation battle. In what was always going to be a challenge Wakefield began brightly, pressing the visitors to play in their own half. However, against the run of play it was Slazenger who took the lead with a shot that took an unfortunate deflection off a Wakefield foot.
