In my match report after our last trip to Harrogate in December, I noted that our next tournament was just 2 weeks away. How wrong could I be? With three successive cancelled tournaments, Slazenger travelled to Harrogate 3 months later with 16 boys including two boys on their first tournament; Elliot Golding & Lee Stringer. Slazenger Mens 1st team continued on their push for promotion, with a 6-4 victory over Ben Rhydding 3rd's. However, Slazenger were not going to make it easy for themselves, alowing Ben Rhydding to score a 2 goal headstart early on. Ben Rhydding were a very well drilled side and deserved the lead. After their close defeat away to Hull University before christmas, the team were looking for a big win to put their promotion efforts back on track. with the squad back to full strength, this was duly delivered with a 10-0 victory over the visitors. Slazenger 4's lost their previous encounter against Barnsley so it was very encouraging that Slazengers started this match with a high tempo and built penetrating attacks from the start. Using both flanks, the home side managed to get behind the Barnsley defence several times before one of these attacks resulted in a goal when Harry Bullock fortuitously managed to reverse hit the ball into the far corner. Having battered Newcastle Ladies 10-0 away, Slaz were hoping for similar success in their first year in the Northern League Div 2 (east).
