Rotherham

Report: 07-11-2015 – Ladies 3rd’s (3) vs. (3) Rotherham 3rd’s

November 7, 2015 by Slazenger HC

Slazengers Ladies 3rd’s made an early morning visit to a Rotherham side only one position above them in the league table. Slazengers made a positive start to the game dominating possession of the ball, which was rewarded midway through the half when Lily Miles smashed the ball into the D and Justine Birkett got a sly delection. Slazengers continued to work hard pressing forward from the midfield driven by Niomi Firth. Another goal was added to the tally a minute before half time when Hannah Chilton finished off some Slazengers quick passing, taking a 2 goal lead into the break.

Rotherham came back re-charged in the second half and gave themselves hope with an early goal. The 2nd half was more evenly balanced than the first, despite slazengers taking a 3-1 lead when player of the match Justine Birkett struck the ball against the backboard and gave the away team some breathing space. However Rotherham didn’t allow them to rest for long, pulling one back with a goal from free play and another from a short corner. Slazengers desperately tried to take all 3 points in the final seconds with 2 consecutive short corners after the final whistle blew. But it was not to be, leading to an unfortunate 3-3 draw for the Ladies team.

Report: 03-10-2015 – Mens 3rd’s (4) vs. (3) Rotherham 3rd’s

Captain Simon Taylor’s 3rds hosted Rotherham for their first home game of the season. The opening half was almost all one way traffic, with Slazenger holding almost all of the posession. Going into the half, the team however were level pegging at 1-1.

It was in the second half when the team really started to perform. Strong midfield work from Man of the Match Matthew Chilton and Andy Fisher set up John Sykes to slot the second goal away, while a searching run from Alan Perry, and the resulting cross was enough to set up newcomer Assad for this first.

It was not all one way traffic, as in the second half, with Rotherham counter-attacking successfully on 2 occasions; the first an unfortunate mix up by goalkeeper Darren Buttery, the second a well worked goal from open play. Slaz quickly followed this up with a fourth from open play, this time a deep run from Taylor was capitalised on by prolific winger Andy Birkett to be finished again by Assad Baig.

Report: 07-02-2015 – Mens 5th’s (1) vs. (0) Rotherham 4th’s

February 7, 2015 by Slazenger HC

In a very close mid table battle Slazengers were tenacious pinning down the Rotherham side and reducing their opportunities. The midfield work really hard in both defence and attack against a strong adult based opposition.

Harry Buttery got on to the end of a great through ball to get Slazengers their well earned goal while at the other end star keeper Dan alderson kept out their threats on goal.

Another great win but more importantly another great team performance

Report: 08-03-2014 – Mens 1st’s (2) vs. (2) Rotherham 1st’s

March 8, 2014 by Slazenger HC

Slaz 2 Rotherham 2 After last weeks thriller against top of league to win 5-4 slaz were keen to keep the promotion battle a good fight and wanted 3 points off second in league Rotherham.Rotherham as expected came out guns blazing and quickily stamped there physical presence on the game.

Slaz were able to buffer it and get Rotherham on the break but Rotherham scores first. Great saves from Keeper Ralph Toon kept slaz in there and earned him man of the match.  It was good quick movement by both sides and slaz we able to create several chances too.  Richard Tuddenham was off form and only managed one goal- yes another miss hit to catch the keeper off guard.

Slaz continued to work hard and Mark Swindon and Paul Wiper created the space in midfield to drive at the Rotherham defence.  The slaz back 4, Maff Birkett, Johnny White, Adam Drake and Simon Chamberlain had a great game and held Rotherham off to the bitter end.

Report: 30-11-2013 – Ladies 1st’s (4) vs. (7) Rotherham 1st’s

November 30, 2013 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger Ladies 1st team took on mid table Rotherham this week with renewed optimism that they could get a decent result. They managed to hold off for a whole 10 minutes this week which was an improvement but conceded the first goal from a short corner quickly followed by a second 5 minutes later. The last 8 minutes of the half saw four further goals as Sarah Cooper scored for Slaz followed by an opposition own goal rightly claimed by Amy Smeaton. At this point Slaz thought they were coming back into the game with some hard work from all areas of the pitch until Rotherham were allowed to score twice in the last three minutes. Half time score 2-4 to the away team and didn’t really reflect the amount of Slaz play and efforts.

After the break Slaz came back with renewed determination but then allowed Rotherham to score almost immediately. Slaz picked up the pace and had a lot of the second half play. Some fantastic passing by player of the match Louise Nock resulted in the first of two goals (both one on one with the keeper) by captain Helen Hough, but Slaz allowed Rotherham to find the back of the net in between their goals. The final goal ensured a 4-7 victory for the visitors and delight for their coach Lynn Robinson particularly as there were no hat tricks to pay out £5 for. Once again a great team effort by Slaz and at least goals are being scored so a better goal difference is a positive!

Next week Slaz have another home match when they face Boston Spa for the second time this season.
