Report: 26-01-2002 – Mens 3rd’s (1) vs (4) Dinnington 1st’s

January 26, 2002 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger Thirds were missing five regulars for their trip to take on Dinnington’s first string, and the 4-1 score line reflects this deficiency though it fails to do justice to the visitors’ performance.

Slazenger’s young guns dug in for the first ten minutes and rallied from the initial storm that left them a goal adrift. Neil Hutchins had an excellent game in defence and Jonathon Clewlow, James Walker and Robert Stephens marshaled the midfield well.

The visitors were delighted to get to the break without conceding further goals and having dented Dinnington’s composure.

Things became interesting when Andy Birkett deflected a free hit into the roof of the net to equalise.

But despite some good late-game goalkeeping by Jonny Walker, Slazenger succumbed to three more goals. Slazenger also spurned a very good chance to equalise at 2-2.

Slazenger thirds are at Adel on Saturday.

January 26, 2002 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger seconds’ run of wins came to an unfortunate end with a 2-1 defeat at York thirds. Gilston put Slazenger one up in the first half, while super support play from Matthew Birkett and Gavin Kaye kept the visitors on top.

York scored twice on the break in the second half very much against the run of play.

Report: 01-12-2001 – Men 4th’s (2) vs. (2) York

December 1, 2001 by Slazenger HC

A weakened Slazenger fourths string travelled to York in fine sporits and were rewarded by a 2-2 draw.

Mark Swinden scored twice before half-time to put Slazenger in a surprise, but commanding lead.

York hit back in the second half and despite excellent work by man of the match James Walker in goal, Slazenger conceded two match levelling goals.

Report: 24-02-2001 – Mens 3rd’s (5) vs. (3) West Yorkshire Police 1st’s

February 24, 2001 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger thirds overcame a robust West Yorkshire Police squad 5-3.

Police scored two early goals but Slazenger arrested the slide and half-back Anwar Al-Kahili and Tony Sidwell started to cause the home side problems.

Short corners were particularly effective and Slazenger went on to score all their five goals without reply until the last ten minutes.

Scorers were Micky Turner, Simon Parker (2), Gavin Kaye, and Martin Lofthouse.
