Straight from the start, Slazenger set out their stall to take the game to a side the Horbury men had never beaten. Slazenger 2nd's exorcised their ghosts against university opposition with a 3-1 win over Hull University 2nd's. Richard Whawell's sharp finishing produced the first goal as he latched onto the rebount off his first-shot to force the ball home. Veteran Simon Miller then turned in a vintage performance to smash home two further goals, the pick being an accurately targeted thunderbolt from the edge of the D which flew just inside the far post.
