THE fourth string grabbed a last gasp victory over Wakefield with a penalty. It was a case of lightening striking twice for unlucky Wakefield, who fell foul of a late goal. John Sykes fired home the spot kick, which had been awarded for a clumsy tackle from behind in the dying stages of the game. Slazenger continued their winning run with a solid victory over a strong Sunderland team. They took the lead early on with James Swinden pouncing on a loose ball in Sunderland's defence's area and slotted it past their outstretched keeper. But the home side leveled the scores with their next attack. It was a clinical finish from close-range. Slazenger fifths blend of experience and youth proved successful as they beat Huddersfield Ninths 2-0. Veterand Alan Killey, Steve Wood and Dave Smyth dominated the midfield and it was Wood and his son Christopher who combined for the game's opening goal. Ten year old Chris latched onto a pas from Steve to score on his debut. Killey added a second goal from a short corner routine to secure three points.
