Mens 3rd XI

Report: 11-11-2000 – Mens 3rd’s (5) vs. (1) York

November 11, 2000 by Slazenger HC

An outstanding performance from Slazenger thirds’ front line gained them a convincing 5-1 win over York.

Man of the match Richard Whawell led the way with two superb scoring strikes.

Whawell struck in the opening minutes, finishing a slinking run from inside his own half with a shot that left the goal-keeper no chance.

Gavin Kaye and John Sykes, the other front men, then combined for the second, scored by the latter.

York hit back with a goal before half-time, but Slazenger continued their dominance and were rewarded with second half goals for Whawell, Sykes and Kaye.

Martin Lofthouse fired home the opening goal, but Leeds scored a dubious equaliser before half-time.

Slazenger never really got going in the second half, but scored a consolation second through Lofthouse.

Andy Christie impressed for Slazenger.

The Police squad’s physical power proved too much for Slazenger in the end after Slazenger had come back to equalise from a goal down through Richard Whawell.

Slazenger man of the match was youngster Paul Johnson.

Report: 23-09-2000 – Mens 3rd’s (0) vs (9) Leeds 3rd’s

September 23, 2000 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger 3rd’s were well and truly outclassed against a very strong Leeds 3rd’s outfit, who triumphed 9-0.

Early exchanges were very even, with Andy Auty coming close for Slazenger on a number of occasions.

Leeds’ finishing was top-notch and they made the most of their chances to produce an embarrassing scoreline that did not reflect the balance of the game.
