Slazengers started the second half positively and managed to maintain the scoreline for the first 20 minutes with some excellent tackles by defenders Karen Bates and Julie finch. Report: 24-01-2015 – Ladies 3rd’s (1) vs. (0) Chapeltown 2nd’s

January 24, 2015 by Slazenger HC

Slazengers ladies 3s continued with their strong start to the new year with a 1 – 0 home victory over Chapeltown 2s. Despite losing by the same goal margin earlier in the year Slazenger’s looked the stronger of the two sides. They scored the only goal of the game with a quick response after a Chapeltown attack down the middle of the pitch.

The resulting counter attack consisted of a succession of short passes leading to the ball being on the stick of Lilly Miles who dribbled round the Chapeltown defence only to be initially denied by the Chapeltown keeper, Miles however took advantage of the rebound with a clean strike to take a 1-0 scoreline into half time.

The second half continued in the same manner with the Slazengers mid field of Emily Entwisle, Linda Stacey and player of the match Miles working tirelessly however Slazengers could not find the finishing touch and the scoreline remained the same at the final whistle with the Horbury side deserving the full three points.

The first game back after the Christmas break saw Slazengers ladies 3s take on Tadcaster Magnets 2s in an early afternoon home fixture. December 13, 2014 by Slazenger HC

Slazengers ladies 3s made the long journey to North Yorkshire to face a Pickering side in a rearranged Sunday fixture. Slazengers started the game the more positive of the two sides and their attacking start was rewarded with the first short corner of the game. In a well executed move the ball was pushed out and stick stopped at the top of the penalty area, with a little nudge it was placed into the path of the falling stick of defender Sarah Ritchey who, with a clean strike, scored her first goal for the club and put slazengers 1-0 up.

Slazengers followed it up with another well worked goal in free play 10 mimutes later, with a move that was finished off neatly by Karen Woodhead to put Slazengers 2 up.

The comfortable lead was short lived however, as Pickering upped their game to bring the score back level and take the 2-2 scoreline into the half time break.
Both teams started the second half with further end to end attacks which resulted in a further 5 goals being scored between the two teams.

The further goals for Slazengers came from Ellie Page, Louise Beever, and with centre forward Karen Woodhead scoring her second of the game. Despite Pickering pulling one back everytime Slazengers pulled ahead, time ran out for them when the final whistle blew and Slazengers took all 3 points with a well earned 5-4 victory.
