November 23, 2010 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger Ladies 3rd’s hockey team played Doncaster at home . Both teams were quiteevenly matched which resulted in a really enjoyable end to end hockey match for players & spectators alike.Slazengers had a bit of a reshuffle & pulled Heather Bates back to assist the usual defensive duo of Julie Finch & Karen Bates. This proved to be a good decision as all three were tested repeatedly in the first ten minutes. Slazengers then settled into some great hockey, Beccy Stafford & player of the match Millie Crowther linked up particularly well down the right of the pitch making some really good breaks.

The first real attempt on goal for Slazengers came from a great shot from Zoe Bacon who was unlucky to be denied by the post. Doncaster made a quick break down the right in numbers, Slazengers clearance was picked up by Doncaster & converted for the first goal of the game.

Slazengers were quick to reply, Lauren Fealy picking out Julie Bacon in midfield, who linked up Well with Beccy Stafford . Sally Thornton timed her run to perfection to the far post & converted the pass from Beccy for the equaliser. Both teams were keen to be the next on the score sheet, keeper Chloe Bates was called upon to make some good saves along with team captain Julie Finch. Doncaster then managed to break down the Slazenger defense & scored a second just before half time. The second half was again very evenly balanced; Slazengers held their shape well & moved the ball around midfield well. Defender Karen Bates, with the support of Kate Durrans, twice found herself in uncharted territory of the attacking half but failed to breakdown the Doncaster defense.

The play was end to end but no further goals were scored & the result remained at 2-1 to Doncaster.

Report: 30-10-2010 – Ladies 3rd’s (0) vs. (0) Tadcaster 2nd’s

October 30, 2010 by Slazenger HC

Slazengers continue to improve their game play in each match , the midfield partnership of Jess Holland & Julie Bacon worked well with the ball being distributed well across both sides of the pitch.Player of the match Katie Brown made countless driving runs down the right of the pitch & played some inviting balls across the D, each of which Slazengers failed to convert.

There was certainly no lack of effort from forwards Elle Poskett & Zoe Bacon, who both had numerous attempts on goal which were all cleared by Tadcasters defence.

This match proved to be just one of those games for Slazengers, despite their best efforts , the ball was not going to cross the goal line .Tadcaster did create a couple of chances which defensive duo of Jessica Lloyd & Julie Finch dealt with easily . The only real attempt on goal by Tadcaster was dealt with by a spectacular diving save by stand in keeper Karen Bates. The last minutes of the game saw a final attack made by a strong driving run by Kate Durrans, linking up perfectly with Sally Thornton who played another great ball into the D, again Slazengers were denied a goal by Tadcasters defence , the final whistle blew to leave the result a 0-0 draw.

September 22, 2007 by Slazenger HC

Slazengers started the game as they meant to go on and kept the ball in possession for most of the first half. 2 unlucky strikes by Ailish Hendry prevented Slazengers from scoring in the first half. Unfortunately Acomb took advantage of a break and scored once in open play then again from a short corner just before the half time whistle.

Second half was much better for Slazengers who prevented Acomb scoring again with some good defending from Julie Finch and great defensive play in the middle by Julie Bacon and Kerry Rolin. Slazengers worked as a team moving the ball up the pitch and scored their first goal from an open play shot be Fi Secker. Again Slazengers kept position of the ball and Helen Ramshaw scored from a short corner in the last 5 minutes of play.

A good result from Slazengers in their first game of the season. Player of the game went to Kerry Rolin who was by far the best player on the pitch.
