Slazenger Ladies 3rd’s hockey team were back to winning form when playing Sheffield Hallam 5 at home.
Slazengers looked formidable from the off, moving the ball confidently around the midfield area . Roxy Farris and Chelsea Artimage linked up really well down the right of the pitch creating numerous chances within the first five minutes. The first goal came from Roxy Farris with a superb strike just inside the D .
Sheffield tried to reply immediately with a break down the right, the ball was played across the pitch but was picked up well by Heather Bates, who cleared the ball up field to Jess Holland, Jess made a great driving run into the attacking half, utilising Elle Poskett and Katie Durrans. The ball was soon back into Sheffield’s D where Slazengers were awarded a short corner.
A fantastic injection from Jess Holland allowed Heather Bates to lay a lovely ball off to Julie Bacon, who put the ball straight through the goalkeeper’s legs to make Slazengers two up.
Sheffield made a few changes & were able to break down the middle, goal keeper Chloe Bates cleared their first attempt & Sheffield quickly switched the ball to the opposite side , Sheffield made another attempt on goal only to see Heather Bates make a great clearance from the line. This was to prove Sheffield’s closest attempt on goal.
The second half was dominated by Slazengers; the work rate of the whole team was second to none. Sophie Williams was awarded a well deserved man of the match for her tireless work in man marking one of Sheffield’s key players .There were numerous chances within the second half, Gemma Whittam positioned perfectly on the back post just missed getting her name on the score sheet, Roxy was denied by the post, & Sheffield’s defence managed to cut out a great attempt by Millie Crowther down the left wing.
Sheffield made scoring another goal difficult for Slazengers by defending in numbers, Slazengers were undeterred and their patience was eventually rewarded by yet another goal for Roxy Farris.
The final score was 3-0 to Slazengers.
