Halifax

Report: 23-10-2004 – Mens 2nd’s (1) vs (2) Halifax 2nd’s

October 23, 2004 by Slazenger HC

Once again, Slazenger’s seconds were left disappointed after a poor performance going down 2-1 away to Halifax seconds. A result that leaves them rooted firmly to the bottom of the table. The story of the season continued with Slazenger’s playing some great hockey but then letting themselves down with individual errors and a lack of ability to dig deep when needed.

The game started with Slazenger’s playing some good hockey but found themselves caught out midway through the first half going a goal down. Then, Slazenger’s began to pick up their play, Ted Richardson equalising with a great reverse stick strike.

The second half was much the same with Slazenger’s playing good stuff only to let themselves down in the final third of the game with Halifax grabbing a late winner from a well worked short corner routine. Slazenger’s will have to dig deep in the coming games to reverse what has been a poor start to the season for them.

Report: 07-02-2004 – Mens 2nd’s (2) vs (6) Halifax 2nd’s

February 7, 2004 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger 2nd’s dissapointing run continued with their fourth defeat in five losing 6-2 away to Halifax.

The Horbury team had to play the entire game with 10 men after suffeing a number of injuries the previous week.

And it was the visitors who took a deserved lead with Nick Webb finishing off a nice move.

Using their extra man it came as no suprise when Halifax equalised before half time.

After the break Slazenger played some of their best hockey of the season and Jonny White gave them the lead after some unselfish work from Rich Hutchins.

But the 10 men Horbury began to tire and the home side ran in four goals in the last 10 minutes to finish with a score that did not show a true reflection of the game. There is no fixture this week.

Report: 01-02-2003 – Ladies 2nd’s (7) vs (0) Halifax

February 1, 2003 by Slazenger HC

Despite the Arctic conditions, Slazenger ladies seconds secured a magnificent 7-0 win at Halifax in Yorkshire Ladies League division 6.

The Slazenger squad showed they were a force to be reckoned with when they took the lead in the first five minutes and thanks to unrelenting pressure from mud-field let 4-0 at half time.

Halifax regrouped at half-time, but Slazenger ‘keeper Sarah Pollard kept them out as the visitors remained determined to stay in control, with Julie Mills and Clair Finch distributing the ball well and Julie Bacon, Laura Teasdale and Chelsea Armitage collected the balls from midfield and continued to slot them home.

Victoria Thornton deservedly won player of the match as she was strong in defence and creative in attack and she scored along with Armitage and Bacon, with Teasdale and Julie Finch scoring two each.

Report: 19-10-2002 – Mens 1st’s (3) vs. (2) Halifax 1st’s

October 19, 2002 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger returned to winning ways with a well-deserved win over strong visitors Halifax.

Unlike recent weeks, Slazenger started well and took an early lead when Mark Swinden fired a superb shot into the roof of the net.

The hosts continued press but were caught on the break as Halifax drew level.

Undeterred, Slazenger pushed on, employing stick passing in midfield didn’t score again until the second half.

Mike Thornecroft produced a sensational strike to send Slazenger 2-1 up but Halifax hit back again.

The game appeared to be heading for a draw as the Halifax keeper repeatedly thwarted the Slazenger fourths. But the pressure eventually paid off when Webb fired home Slazenger’s third and decisive goal.

Report: 01-02-2002 – Mens 1st’s (1) vs (2) Halifax 1st’s

February 1, 2002 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger’s team, already depleted by injury and illness, had to play much of the game with just ten men following the dismissal of Windler and it proved too great a hurdle to overcome at Halifax.

The match started off at a fast pace with both teams creating chances.

Both Butel and Windler went close for the visitors following some slick passing. But the harsh dismissal of Windler, compounded by a Halifax goal, left Slazenger with an uphill task.

The visitors held firm and. in the second half, drew level when Butel found the back of the net to pull Slazenger right back in the game.

The game was now a struggle for the Wakefield-based side and despite some stubborn defending and fine goal-keeping by Dave Hellam, the pressure proved too much and Halifax edged into the lead.

This seemed to spur Slazenger on and they forced the host onto the back foot, searching for the equaliser.

Whittle almost made it 2-2 but he put his shot over the bar and although the visitors continued to exert pressure on the home side they could not break them down.

This Saturday, Slazenger entertain Sheffield Bankers in the North Eastern Division 2. 1:30am start.
