Well what can be said about the start to the season for slazengers ladies second team? A 2-1 win against pocklington, a 6-0 win against canalside terriers brought us to a double header weekend. A win for the Slazenger ladies second team at home at the weekend left them 7th in the table. Throughout the first half the home team played some excellent hockey, gaining most of the possession. They were rewarded for all the pressure early in the first half from an excellent goal from Alex Gilbert who had an excellent match. The ladies seconds faced tough conditions this week, playing at high altitudes on top of Mount Halifax; with arctic temperatures and little oxygen due to the height. This however would not faze them as they put up a strong fight against top-of-the-league Halifax. Proceedings were slightly delayed with captain Nez forgetting an umpire; a now vital tool for any hockey match. Slaz knew that they had to beat Halifax to avoid a possible bottom three place this week. Although Halifax had been beaten soundly by Slaz the first game of the season, they had some good results under their belt and an easy game was by no means guaranteed. Report: 09-12-2012 – Girls U12’s Tournament
The 3rd tournament of the season was held last weekend and saw the girls putting in some great performances to finish top of their league. They were beaten only by Thirsk in a very close match with a final score of 3:2, but in all their other games came out on top. They will now progress to league D, and hopefully with a higher standard of opposition we will see them up their game even further.
