October 9, 2005 by Slazenger HC

The first tournament of the season was a tough experience for Slazenger U12 Boys.

After defeats to Driffield, Rotherham and L.A.Metros, Slazenger deserved to get something out of their final game against Ben Rhydding as player of the tournament, Adam Davis put in another assured performance in goal. But Slazenger were beaten by a single goal following a series of desperate goalmouth clearances.

Report: 13-02-2005 – Boys U12 Tournament

February 13, 2005 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger U12s took part in a series of tournament games and although they did not manage a win were pleased with their progress during the day.

In the first match, Slaz started strongly against a skilled Halifax team, producing a well struck goal from Chris Wood, but Halifax hit back to win.

Against Driffield the result was a draw but Daniel Perry and Jake Barras both had half chances up front and posed a serious threat to the Driffield defence. It was however a competent and composed keeping by Jack Mumford and splendid tackling from Robert Furness that kept Slaz in the game.

The game against Normanby Park was a scrappy one, but both teams showed the will to win.

Good midfield play from Aled Davies with decisive tackling made Slaz look good on the counter attack, but Park took the glory with a great solo effort.

Against Ben Rhydding, Slaz’ were caught hibernating in the first minute, but then produced the best hockey of the day with good linking play down the wings from Ailish Hendry at the back, through Chris Wood, to Adam Driver up front, they looked like a team on a mission, but lacked the finish.

In the final match Jake Barras scored early on from a lovely cross, but L A Metros came back into it.

Strong defending from James Dransfield and Aled Davies, gave Chris Wood a belting strike from the top of the D but it was disallowed and L A Metros later equalized.

Report: 09-01-2005 – U12 Boys

January 9, 2005 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger U12 Boys played five matches in their latest round of Yorkshire Youth League games.

The first game saw them produce a good performance against Normanby Park A, but lost by one goal to the league winners.

There was some solid defending by James Dransfield and Ailish Hendry.

Slaz were eager in their second game against Boston Spa and forward Jake Barras made two great chances for himself from the top of the D, both delivered by bullet passes from Chris Wood, but he was unable to capitalise.

In the third match, the Horbury side earned a goalless draw with both Adam Driver and Ailish Hendry showing their versatility and strength.

Halifax were the only side to catch Slaz on the back foot by scoring an early goal. Slaz’ hit straight back with short corner opportunities but Chris Wood was unable to convert.

In the last game against Harrogate, Slazenger took an early lead with a well struck goal from Daniel Perry fed by Chris Wood.

Harrogate equalised and although Slaz’ produced more chances they were unable to score, with player of the tournament Adam Davis for five excellent games with great saves and vigilance.

December 12, 2004 by Slazenger HC

Fielding a new squad, the Slazenger U12 Boys had mixed results in their latest round of Yorkshire Youth League Matches.

Slaz were cought napping against Ben Rhydding B who scored twice from short corners with Aled Davies fighting hard to hold midfield with some precision flat tackles which prevented any goals from open play.

In the next game, York won 3-0 and this was followed by a surprise 6-0 defeat at the hands of Normanby Park.

Report: 28-11-2004 – Boys U10’s

November 28, 2004 by Slazenger HC

In the third of five tournaments to be held this season Slazenger U10’s played in the second division for the first time after good results moved them up.

It was a promising start with a 2-0 win against Chapeltown’s B side, with goals from Henry Moore and Daniel Perry.

But it was a defeat in the second game against Leeds despite Adam Driver and Jake Barras’ attempts on goal.

It was the first competitive tournament for half of the Slazenger squad and in the remaining three games, their inexperience showed.

Thomas Kent and Tom Stephenson worked hard in the third, but could not stop Ben Rhydding winning 4-0.

The fourth game finished 2-0 to driffield and in the final game against Chapeltown’s A team, Slazenger were well beaten by a strong side.
