Report: 16-10-1999 – Mens 2nd’s (1) vs. (1) York 3rd’s

A good, hard-fought match between Slazenger seconds and York thirds ended all square at 1-1.

Defences dominated in the first half, but York threw caution to the wind after the break and scored on the break. Debutant Swinden scored a deserved equaliser for Slazenger.

On Saturday, Slazenger seconds travel to Huddersfield seconds.

Report: 16-10-1999 – Mens 1st’s (2) vs. (1) Scarborough 1st’s

Fully charged Slazenger settled quickly into their fluent attacking style at Scarborough to returning confortable 2-1 victors.

Will Buckley’s tremendous strike opened Slazenger’s account in this Pritt Roller Yorkshire League Division 2 fixture.

Midfielder Nick Webb plucked the ball out of the air for the second off Andy Forman’s cross.

The second goal however, had a downside to it. Slazenger sat back on their two-goal cushion and Scarborough hit back in the second half.

Their pressure paid off with a goal but the goal-keeping efforts of man of the match Dave Hellam and the rest of the back four proved too good for the East coast side.

Slazenger entertain Boston Spa on Saturday, push back 1:30pm.

Report: 03-10-1999 – U16 Boys

Slazenger Boys U16’s got their season off to a good start with four points from their opening three match.

A hard-fought draw in the first match against Normanby Park was followed wih an excellent 3-1 win over City of York, goals coming from skipper James Swinden (2) and Robert Stephens.

Slazenger were just edged out 2-1 by Bardsey in the final game. Richard Whawell scored an excellent goal for Slazenger.

Slazenger’s new full back pairing of Jonathan Clewlow and Neil Hutchins was outstanding throughout the three match.

Report: 02-10-1999 – Mens 5th’s (1) vs (0) Acomb 4th’s

October 2, 1999 by Slazenger HC

Slazenger fifths edged a competitive away fixture over Acomb fourth string.

Patrick Rivers goal five minutes from time after Haydn Foster had beaten the entire Acomb defence with some outstanding stick skill clinched it for the visitors.

Slazenger goalkeeper Jim Heller was named man of the match for a magnificent performance that included a string of vital saves.

Foster, Rivers, Lock and Barron also impressed.

Report: 02-10-1999 – Mens 4th’s (5) vs (1) City of York 7th’s

October 2, 1999 by Slazenger HC

Four spectacular goals from Ian Wiper and an equally impressive fifth from Dave Smyth gave Slazenger fourths a comfortable 5-1 win over York sevenths.

Smith opened the scoring and Wiper added the first of his four before half-time.

Man of the match Wiper scored an impressive hat-trick after the break to sink the visitors
