The first week of June is Volunteer Week across the UK. As a community hockey club, we’re powered by volunteers. Every season, hundreds of Slazenger hockey players across all age groups take to the pitch. But without coaches, managers, umpires, captains, and all the other roles which happen quietly behind the scenes, none of this would happen.
Everyone who gives any time to the club is amazing! Whether that’s helping support a junior training session, managing a team, picking up a whistle and anything in between. It’s also important to highlight the volunteering of our junior players; often they’re found helping younger junior sides, or giving their time back to the club to help umpire games; an amazing contribution!
How Can You Help?
There are many parts of the club, where an extra pair of hands would make a massive difference. For the forthcoming season, the most amazing difference anyone can make is pick up a whistle. Our umpires are incredible and games don’t go ahead without them. From Under 8’s, all the way through the junior section, to our Men’s and Ladies sides, and Masters fixtures; all need amazing umpires.
So if you’re looking to help out, get involved, and put something back into the club, consider being an amazing umpire!
