Slazengers travelled to Chapeltown in the morning for a crucial match in their promotion chase. Chapeltown were in 3rd place before the game and 5 points behind Slaz with a game extra to play.
In the early exchanges Slazengers were second best as Chapeltown put pressure on the Slaz back four. Then after 15 minutes Chapeltown scored after a mix up between goalkeeper and full back which led to a tap in for the home team forward. From them on Slazengers started to grow into the game and dominated for the rest of the half but couldn’t find the back of the goal.
After the half time break Slaz continued to keep the ball in the Chapeltown half but couldn’t find the goal until with 15 minutes left Dan Tiffany put the ball in the roof of the goal from a scramble at a short corner. This was the only major event in the second half apart from with 2 minutes left when a mix up resulted in a Chapeltown red card for hitting a Slazenger player with a stick and a Slaz yellow for retaliation. These cards didn’t have an effect on the end result which concluded in an important 1-1 draw which leaves the 4s still in 2nd but promotion isn’t in our hands after Rotherham won 3-0.
An overall brave performance by the 4th team but unfortunately the deserved result wasn’t acquired. Next week they play a friendly against Doncaster back at Slaz pushback at 3, many supporters expected.
