Slazengers mens 4th team faced up against Wakefield and hoped to record a double over their local rivals after a 3-1 win earlier in the season.
Slazengers started strong and pounced first after centre forward John Sykes rushed through Wakefield’s defence and after an attempt the first goal came to Harry Gunning at the back post. After this Slaz looked the stronger of the two teams but Wakefield won a short corner which was converted to level the match. Just before the break Steve Roberts converted a short corner of our own to give Slaz the lead at half-time.
In the second half the greens dominated as further goals followed from James Walker and another for Steve Roberts to round off a brilliant performance by the whole team. Slazengers ran out deserved winners against their local rivals to keep the promotion hunt alive.
Notable performances came from Matt Banks and Harry Gunning in midfield but Steve Roberts came away with the man of the match award after a super performance. Hopefully this is the start of a run as we travel to Kingston-Upon-Hull next Saturday.
