Slazengers mens 2nd team travelled to Chapeltown 2’s in confident mood following their first win of the season the previous week but in the end, had to settle for a 2-2 draw. From the off, Slazengers had the upper hand and played some good attacking hockey particularly down the flanks creating a number of chances. The Chapeltown keeper was in excellent form and shut down a number of Slazenger attacks but couldn’t keep out Ben Grahams drive from the top of the ‘d’ after good work from Matt Stacey and Jack Mumford. Slazengers continued to play good hockey but Chapeltown soon began to create chances of their own and drew level with a tap in on the back post after a good passing move.
The second half was much the same; Slazengers attacking well but struggling to find the net with Chapeltown attacking on the break. It was Chapeltown who took the lead however following a quick break. Slazengers didn’t let their heads drop and with Tom Pitchforth and Eddie Richardson working hard in the middle, won a short corner with 5 minutes to go. This was duly converted when a loose ball fell to Jack Mumford to drill home. Both teams pushed for a winner but couldn’t find one and had to settle for the draw.
Matt Stacey took the man of the match award for Slazengers who will look to build on their unbeaten run when they entertain York University on Saturday.
