Slazengers mens 2nd team travelled to Leeds on Saturday looking to make it 2 wins in 2 since the Christmas break and did exactly that with a well deserved 3-2 victory. Slazengers were without 2 of their regular defenders and when their only recongnised centre back was injured mid way through the 1st half, things could have turned out differently. It was up to Matt Green and Rowan Tejura to step into the role which they did to constantly thwart Leeds attacks.
Slazengers took the lead when a quick break resulted in man of the match Simon Randall getting a touch past the Leeds keeper only for Leeds to hit back immediately. Leeds had the better of the first half but Slazengers defence and keeper Ralph Toon stood firm to keep the score 1-1 at the break.
A re-shuffle in the Slazengers midfield helped turn things round and Slazengers were on top for the majority of the second half. Their work rate in midfield especially from Ste Roberts didn’t allow Leeds any time on the ball and started to force mistakes. Slazengers took the lead when Jake Barras converted a short corner only for Leeds once again to equalize. Slazengers weren’t to be denied however and when a mistake was forced from the Leeds defence, the ball was squared to Matt Stacey who drilled home the winner from the top of the ‘D’.
Slazengers entertain Lincoln Roses on Saturday and will be looking for a big performance after suffering a heavy defeat in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.
