Despite bad weather for the past 3 weeks preventing training sessions, and some new players in the team, Slazengers was off to a strong start, with Gemma Whittam scoring the first goal of the match within the first few minutes. Unfortunately, although Slazengers managed to keep possession and had many attempts on goal, Thirsk broke through and equalised the score. Scores didn’t stay 1-1 for long though, with Thirsk quickly adding another 2 extra points to their score despite some good defensive work from all.
Nevertheless, Slaz came out of half time with positive attitudes and determination and while they had many opportunities on goal, Thirsk proved too tricky to break, and despite some strong defensive work (and impressive diving from some!), Thirsk scored another 3 goals over the course of the second half, bringing the final score to 6-1.
Although it was not one of their best results, the team finished on a high, with a very positive and cheerful attitude, with player of the match being awarded to Codie Thompson, for a great debut match.
