The mens 3rd’s travelled away to Grimsby for their 4th game of the season, and came away with a tough fought win; their fourth of the season keeping them top of the table for a fourth week.
The team were slow to start off, and while several passages of play showed their usual passing dominance, the visitors were unable to really apply the flowing style which had marked out the first encounters this season. This lead to conceding an unfortunate first goal putting the team a goal behind for the second week in a row.
This seemed to get the team working again, and under constant pressure a short corner was won, which Paul Johnson rifled in from the top of the D, making things all level.
There continued to be a lot of back and forth, with some uncharacteristicly messy play making the game far harder for the visitors than it should have been. Jack Mumford manufactured the second goal, driving the ball hard and fast into towards the net, only for Steve Johnson to get a touch to it at the last second to claim the goal!
Grimsby came back into it and levelled. However in the second half, Slaz organised better, passing and controlling the run of play. With greater pressure on the home team, it was only a matter of time before a third was scored; a short corner dispatched by Ste Roberts.
With Grimsby tiring, the team continued to pressure. In the dying minuted of the game, a long ball from Paul Johnson found Steve Johnson, who passed the ball off to Luke Gueli, taking on the keeper and slotting the ball home to put the result beyond doubt.
